Excellent Book for Learning ASL

I teach ASL (American Sign Language), and have for many years. This series matches my teaching style, and is excellent for total immersion. As a Deaf person, I had used many of the strategies listed in the book before it came out, and Hearing instructors sometimes did not agree with me. When this series came out, I felt validated and vindicated. Excellent resource. Buy it!

Sub par, Need an ASL Course to Follow Along

The videos are very informative and the mini-dialogues in conjunction with the corresponding book pages are extremely helpful. However, the organization of the book is horrendous. Vocabulary is covered at the END of the chapters. You need the vocab throughout the chapter, it makes very little sense to have it at the end. In addition, not all of the vocabulary used is covered.
This book HAS to be used with a course. The vocab pictures showing the signs are not very clear in the text, especially for signs in which close finger movements are needed. Although there is a vocab section in the videos which helps.

DON'T RENT IT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DVD TOO. I received my book with speedy shipping but what i really needed was the DVD's which didn't come with the book. I didn't read anywhere that says the rentals not not come without the DVD's. You cant do any work in the book without those DVD's. Will not be renting books that need to come with materials ever again.
