If you are a Christian who has struggled with the seeming 2 faces of GOD (merciful and loving v/s angry and vengeful) get ahold of a Joseph Prince book - ANY of his books.

Even though I grew up in a very loving Christian home, with many family members in ministry, this man is the first person in my life to explain GOD in a way that rings true with the GOD I have always known in my heart to exist. His biblical based explainations of Christ and HIS finished work, HIS payment for our debt, is life changing.

Joseph Prince is an awesome Bible teacher.

I found Pastor Prince about 3 years ago and his anointed preaching and books have changed me to the core. No matter what you have done or whatever sins you have committed he will teach you that God doesn't see the sins of those who believe in His Son our Lord Jesus Christ. Your life will radically change because Pastor Prince is a teacher of Grace and the New Testament with scripture to back up everything he teaches. If you are hurting and feeling guilty, let God Bless you today and everyday with the knowledge that He loves you no matter what sins you have committed. Get ready for your core to be changed. May the Grace of our Lord be with you all!!!

She explains that bungalows were originally "designed for California's outdoor lifestyle," but eventually, "Sears, Montgomery Ward, Aladdin, Gordon Van-Tine, Lewis Homes and others all made bungalows a mainstay among their ready-to-assemble houses." In subsequent chapters, she explores the better-known bungalow architects, such as California's Ellsworth Storey and Seattle's Willatsen and Byrne. Beautiful photos by Vertikoff enable the reader to fully experience the quaint charm of the bungalow exterior, and the warmth of the its wood-detailed interiors and light-filled kitchen nooks.

truly lovely homage to the American bungalow

Bungalow Nation is a truly sumptuous and detailed look at American bungalows.With color pictures on every page, this book is a wonderful balance of text and graphics. The author's text and the photographs by Alexander Vertikoff together present a well-rounded introduction to bungalow style through brief looks at over 75 specific examples of bungalow architecture.

In a chapter called "In The Land Of The Bungalow" the book starts with a brief history of the origins and growth of the architectural style and its place in American history. This chapter is followed by brief treatments of specific aspects of bungalow style: the outside, porches, the inside, fireplaces, built-ins, and furnishings.

Then the author and photographer take us to five different cities to look at examples of bungalows in each. Sample bungalows in Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago and Washington DC are highlighted in two to four page spreads. Each house has a description and history of the house and some information on the current owners. This is followed by some photographs of specific features with captions describing each.

The book ends with a bibliography and lists of organizations and architects in each of the five areas highlighted.

This is a lovely book. The bugalows are beautifully photographed. The endpapers are sheet music for the song "In The Land Of the Bungalow" by George F. Devereaux. The cover has a color print of a crewel embroidery of dragonflies. It is a labor of love that is a delight to read and a treat to the eyes. If you love bungalows, this is the book for you.

I got this book because I am planning to remodel the kitchen and bath of my 1930 bungalow and was looking for ways to do so while retaining the original integrity of the house. This book has given me the ideas I need to move forward with confidence.

Love affair with the bungalow

I live in a California Craftsman bungalow and therefore gravitated immediately to this book when I saw it in Builders Booksource in Berkeley, CA. It's absolutely lovely: the story of 75 bungalows in LA, Seattle, Chicago, DC, and Minneapolis. I was surprised that Berkeley wasn't included, but the homes shows epitomize America's love affair with these cozy, well-built structures. Included are features on porches, fireplaces, numerous built-ins, furnishings, landscaping, and interior/exterior decoration. You'll love this book, as I do.

Homes to Emulate

When I bought a 1920's bungalow a year ago, I checked out every arts and crafts and bungalow book I could get my hands on. This one rose to the top. Perhaps I'm a little biased because a good portion of the homes featured in the book are located in the Twin Cities, where I live. But the thing I really like about Bungalow Nation, besides the lovely quality of the photograhps, is that it provides excellent inspiration for the interior decoration of arts and crafts style homes.

If you have a bungalow, or just love the style, you will adore this book.

This prequel starts fourteen years before the events in Creatus Book One. I highly recommend you read this prequel first so you can get a look into the characters' lives leading up to the full story. Prepare yourself for a cliffhanger ending, though.�

Rating note: Although this story would probably receive a PG-13 rating, the content is appropriate for ages sixteen and older due to alcohol and drug use. Neither, however, is ever glorified. There are also some scenes of driving under the influence. Please know that I do not condone these actions; they are only used to display the character's state at the time.

About the Author
Although all of Carmen's stories have a common thread--romance, mystery,�and�suspense--not all of her novels are supernatural. Her first five books�are romantic-suspense whodunits. They are all stand-alone novels;�however, she does link each of her stories with a little surprise. She also has a series of mysteries with a ghostly edge. A perfect beginning to a wonderful series

I finished book 1, CREATUS, and had just started book 2, when CREATUS (THEY EXIST) came out. So I paused my reading and grabbed this one instead.

So glad I did!

Book 1 starts pretty late in the game, leaving many questions as to how the characters got to the point they are when we meet them. Creatus (They Exist)covers these holes. Unlike most stories, this one was probably pretty tricky to write, simply because anyone who has read book 1 already knows the outcome. With that in mind, Carmen still creates a story with all the tension and unexpected twists and turns needed to keep a reader's attention.

New aspects are brought into the characters' backgrounds, which really deepens the understanding of their later actions as well as adds a new insight into their personalities. I felt as if I were getting to know the characters all over again.

The pacing is great, always introducing new aspects that I didn't see coming. I read this in two sittings and had trouble putting it down after the 1st one (but we all need our sleep). I still found myself fevering for the main character's safety although I knew she'd be okay, since I'd read book 1.

Summed up, Carmen DeSousa did a great job in filling in the information that I really felt was missing in book 1 and accomplished it while still adding new bits, twists and turns. I really recommend this to anyone who has already read the other books in this series as well as to anyone who is just starting with it.

Covers some topics you can find nowhere else

This is not a good book from which to learn basic image processing, and this is not a good book from which to learn basic signal processing. The best books on those subjects, respectively, are Digital Image Processing (3rd Edition) and Discrete-Time Signal Processing (2nd Edition) (Prentice-Hall Signal Processing Series). However, neither of these books or any other book joins these two subjects, along with optics, in such a practical fashion to show you how to solve real image processing problems. The author could have been more generous in his use of examples in how to set up the algorithms, but he does have a companion website that has example programs in MATLAB.

Part one skimpily covers the basics of digital image processing. Skip over it and read the previously mentioned book on the subject and go straight to part two. That part and the subsequent parts of the book talk in detail about subjects I haven't found in any other book, at least not so clearly married to the subject of image processing as this one is.

The outrageous pricetag and the entirely inadequate part one are the only negatives I can find in this book.

Very solid on math, very expensive in price.

This book covers most of the elements you will ever need or want to know about image processing. It presents the algorithms, mathematics, and logic behind all major techniques. It has enough math to scare off any casual reader, in enough detail to satisfy anyone seriously interested in image processing. The only bad thing about the book is the cost. If it were priced slashed to $60 or less, I'd have given it 5 stars. If you plan on doing any serious image processing in your career, it is worth the money. If you only need it for a class and not your career, then you are probably better off reading it with a formerly-wealthy classmate.

One of the best for Learning the Material

I used Ken Castleman's first edition in 1979 that same year to get a thorough and fast mastery of digital image processing. The book is highly recommended, because I feel that if a book is easy to read and gets the job done of educating the reader as quickly as possible, and it is actually a pleasure to go through, then it is a winner. This book is one of the rare technical books I can recommend this way. The price tag of 105 is hefty, but many books today are outlandishly priced. Even so, if the budget allows only one or two Digital Imaging texts, this would be one I would definitely pick.

In 1974, Schiller was the Illinois Junior Champion. Schiller played for the University of Chicago team several times at the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship. He was an organizer of the Hawaii International chess festivals 1994-98 including 1998 US Open California Champion 1995. Later that year, he appeared as a chess adviser for the music group Phish on some of the stops for their "Chess Tour" where they played an ongoing game of two chess moves per tour stop and some "band vs. audience" partial games as part of their stage performance. Schiller was an arbiter at several notable games and championships including the FIDE World Chess Championship 2000. While Vladimir Kramnik and Garry Kasparov opted not to participate in the event, they had both endorsed Schiller for this sensitive role during the planning stages. As of July 2005, Schiller has a FIDE rating of 2210. He is also an International Arbiter and International Trainer. Schiller's expertise and publications in the Flohr-Zaitsev Variation made him a sought-after expert when Gary Kasparov used that opening at the second game at the World Chess Championship 1990.

NOT MY MONEY AGAIN

Let's all say howdy, glad to see ya made it from Sidewinder Flats to Chico. He's had a mighty hard time, bushwackers, Indians just a a hot mess. Now he's relaxing with a nice hot meal of steak and potatoes, hot strong black coffee, slice of Apple pie. Before the tasty hearty meal, he had deposited the money from the sale of his horses to the Army in the Chico bank. Had himself a hot bath, shave and new clothes starting with union jacks, sturdy pants and shirt, socks..and he was ready..Little did he know what was in store for him; if he knew he would have just passed through Chico and stopped at the next town...He was a distraction...didn't even know it..someone robbed the bank which had his money...not good..Now he's on the run from a posses from Chico, Indians, bushwackers...it's a mess. Cassidy fighting on all sides, he's in a hot mess and he's not happy about it..The Calvary is also involved..like I said everyone is after Cassidy. And you'll all see that he's innocent as a new pair of boots..He also meets his future wife...these men and women in the old west didn't seem to lose time mating..If you've read Smoke Jensen they stayed with these women; treasured them..to bad it's not a continuous feeling. But then just as you had the good men, you have the buzzards who have no respect for women, who treat them as their farm animals. THESE men die with their seed never ever fertilized....thank goodness..So far Cassidy will find a wife to share his dreams..After all Cassidy is a career solder fighting in India, Afghanistan, Khyber Pass, he's been to Paris, France..in those days you could call him a traveler, and a drifter, but a deadly drifter..good man to have your back...keep your campfires smokeless, you'll live longer....

Just Solid Good Western Stories with believable Western Plots!

This one by Kenworthy will keep you on the edge. Plenty of Western Suspense, Action and Thrills along the way. Spent the week reading this writers western books and not a disappointment in any of them. Good stories, fun western characters and serious western plots that have you looking for the next western by this wrtier.

UG at the end of his life

This book had such a powerful effect on me that at the end I had to take it out for a coffee, savor it and the people in it as if they were my dearest friends, stretching out the cappuccino and crying into too-small, too-stiff napkins, until finally UG was gone. If that makes it sound like some feel-good love fest, forget it; it was almost unbearably uncomfortable at times... When I read it, I was already extremely disillusioned by most things spiritual, and my encounter UG would flush out the rest. But he is no piece of cake and it can take a while to orient yourself. Brawley is unflinching, meticulously bringing to life the oddly coherent contradictions of a force of nature. Not easy, given the truth of UG's message, that thought is dead, yet Brawley manages to use words which, though they surely belong to the realm of thought, feel alive... So that UG reaches from his nonexistent grave and smacks you in the head. It has been a wild ride, still is, and Goner is both consistent with the other books about UG I've read, and marvelously unique. Which may be the UG effect: after the tsunami, in the wrecked landscape of your life, a voice that may not be able to say anything, but is somehow more distinctly yours. Horrifying and wonderful, both...

Goner is like a train wreck: it's too awful to look at but too fascinating to turn away. Amazing

Louis Brawley is a great writer and story teller. This book was hard to put down. Fascinating from front to back I just couldn't get enough of this book. Thanks Louis Brawley for the hard work that went into giving us a glimpse of what it was like to travel with such extraordinary man.

These heartfelt and ego-free sentiments… will provide the reader with a notice that you’re about to read a sports autobiography that comes from a much different shelf… than the overflowing one filled with mindless… me… me… mantra… of countless athletes.

As the story begins in childhood… the reader at first will think that the writing has an “infantile” feel to it… then as it continues… you’ll slowly start to realize… that the telling of the story is as if you’re actually inside young “June” (Julius’s nickname with family members… short for Junior)… and you’re actually looking through his eyes… you even feel as if you’re his size… as he continues to jump… and jump.. and jump… trying to be able to look out the window in his home. The love between all members of the Erving family is both touching and nostalgic. The lessons that come along with the love from “The Doctor’s” Mother… reminds you of the way America used to be… and at least the way you wish it to be now. Along with an older sister… there’s a Father not in his daily life… and who dies young… there is also younger brother Marky… who is sickly… and idolizes Julius… and not only lives through his older brother’s accomplishments… but deluges June with questions on all subjects. Julius is Marky’s protector… and he loves him so deeply… that his short life of illness… is one of the tragedies that will never leave The Doctor’s soul for all eternity.

Order… Order… Order…

You’ll come to appreciate that Erving loves order in his life… everywhere! His pencils need to be in order… his clothes need to be in order… he loves sports because there is an order to it. Order… Order… Order! Regarding basketball… “What I have is powerful and easily observed love for the game.”

He is always jumping… rising up… jumping… rising up! His coaches become Father figures… whether in “sal” ball (Salvation Army)… high school… or college. Despite his playground machismo and artistry… he also likes the plays… the signals from the coach… the order. Growing up in the tumultuous sixties… The Doctor… refuses to hate… despite bigotry… despite continuous pressure from those around him. His evolving into a playground legend… is once again written as if you’re viewing it through his very eyes. The basketball accomplishments that probably every reader is aware of is definitely covered in this book… but it becomes secondary… to the man… the person… the gentleman… the American… the class act… that even during shortcomings… and moments of weakness… Julius Erving one way or another eventually paints with class. He doesn’t blame other people… he not only stands up… he rises… he rises… up!

The writing… really seems more than mere writing… in this book. I don’t know if a scholar would call it first person… second person… narrative… I just don’t know. What I do know… it’s like poetry… with its own flowing rhythm… and a view from the reader’s eyes… into Erving’s heart… and out through his eyes… for a panoramic absorption of The Doctor’s lifetime experiences… and emotions.

I am the same age as Julius… I was born in the same part of the country as Julius… basketball was as big a part of my life as his… and the individual basketball exploits shared… I was definitely looking forward to when I bought this book… I am especially pleased … that younger readers will get an education regarding one very important historical fact. Basketball didn’t start and end with Michael Jordan… before Jordan there was The Doctor… and before The Doctor… there was Elgin Baylor… and I’m ever so glad… that Julius makes it perfectly clear… that it was Elgin Baylor that inspired him to pattern his play after… jumping… jumping… rising up!

But… in the end… the power… and dignity… of this book… is not the basketball… it’s the man… Julius Erving!

Probably the best sports autobiography I have ever read, and I have read a lot of them. It's a page turner and really emotional. It gave me a lot of insights into the man, the times, and especially, the game. I bought 5 of 'em to give to the ballers I play with. Just great.

DR J WAS poetry in the air and truly one of a kind. He is one of the Greatest Basketball Players and also a very down to earth Brother. no matter what the term you use, be it Swag, Cool, Cold, Smooth Dr J was that cat who had it like that. now this Book Covers his Career and what happen off the court, various Ups and downs and what shaped up his life then and now. he left a mark on and off the court. He was a Black SuperStar in an Era where there weren't a whole lot as you have now. he broke alot of Ground. Doc was so Badd He made the NBA come to him and Bring him there. Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkens, Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne wade, Lebron James amongest others owe a debt to the Greatness and Ground Breaking Player that Dr J Julius Erving was.
