I liked the way that the hard topics of transformation have been explained

I read the first 5 chapters of the book. I always had the problem with the transformations and how to describe them for my students. I found the book very well written in that aspect.
I hoped that the book could come up with a CD or companion site to have the codes available so the students can use and try them fast.

As Daryl discovers one homicide after another, he ultimately accepts that inaction will result in losing everything. His freedom, the beautiful Rebecca Montague… possibly even his life. Those are the consequences when the truth is ignored and a jury could find Daryl unjustly convicted of murders he had no part in planning or executing, no matter how damning the evidence.

For the Poe lovers!

There are few authors that write in a style reminiscent of Edgar Alan Poe but Philip Buckley should be included in this group. Excellent character develop, a feel for a similar time period and twists and turns wove the story into a complete work of art that kept me reading to see what could happen next. It is not just that I happen to be left handed that I enjoyed this book, but rather I felt myself drawn into the story and look for more from this talented new-comer.

Courtesy over adventure

Beowulf is a wonderful poem, not just because of the wondrous adventures of its heroes, but rather because it shows the courteous manner in which the Germanic kingdoms of the middle ages carried themselves. Some people may think the characters simple or lacking complexity, but that is because this poem is not trying to confound or illuminate: this was written for courtly recitation and illustrates courtly and courteous manners, rather than adventures.

This is the book to read if you've ever read and liked JRR Tolkien's "Hobbit", "The Fellowship of the Ring", "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King".I was in the middle of reading the above books for the second time when I started to read "Beowulf".Tolkien was a "scholar", if you will, of "Beowulf" and when you are finished reading it you will realize that all he did when he wrote the Hobbit books was to take this epic story, expand and add characters to it. I was very disenchanted with Tolkien's books after having read "Beowulf". "Beowulf" is a fantastic story and a classic that should be required reading for all.

Not for kids or common people

This is probably a good translation, but it really needs a translation of the translation. The English used is so difficult that most people would have a hard time understanding what is going on. It is not a translation into modern everyday english. I tried to read it to my children, but I had to stop every paragraph and explain what was going on. I ended up buying another translation by Michael Morpurgo which is much better and more understandable.

Secrets to being in a happy family

I've always had an intuitive awareness of how to love and support my daughter in ways that would allow her to grow and blossom into a confident, loving person. Yet when I read this book, I found even deeper insights into the "whys and hows" of parenting -- and being a husband.
I don't usually buy books of this sort, but this one was a treat. It read quickly and easily, but I think it's apparent simplicity was deceptive. On reflection, I found the insights into parent/child relationships, and spouse to spouse interaction to go deep... really deep. (For example, this guy's approach to a child's time out surprised the heck out of me -- and then I said, "of course, that's the way it would work best.")
I liked this book. It kept me interested and it inspired me.

Ripping, I say, what? Absolutely.

The man never ceases to amaze and entertain. I re-read these for undoubtedly the umpteenth time since first cutting my teeth on them at the tender age of thirteen or thereabouts, and I still had a goofy grin on my face throughout interspersed with frequent guffaws, slapped knees and countless chuckles. The English language hasn't seen a finer writer before or since. Must make all the other writers feel like frightful chumps.

Dashed entertaing way to spend the hours....

I came to savor the written works of P. G. Wodehouse and his creation Jeeves with a not completely clean palate, as it were. My views have been informed by large helpings of the TV series "Jeeves & Wooster", and the very distinct characterizations presented so well by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie respectively.

So it comes as a great pleasure - and a not so small little relief - to find that the source material is even more entertaining. Well worth the read, to the point I'll be purchasing other volumes of these works.

As for the Kindle formatting of this book - there are no problems at all with the version I bought.

All in all, this is highly recommended. And a bargain at the price.

About the Author

Chef John Draz was a founding faculty member of the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts. He was chef/owner of a 300-seat fine-dining restaurant. He has consulted for numerous independent restaurants, as well as organizations such as McDonald’s Corporation, Groen Corporation, Quaker Oats, and the National Dairy Board. Chef Draz currently serves as Executive Research Chef for Ed Miniat, Inc., a manufacturer of cooked meat products located in South Holland, Illinois.

 

Chef Christopher Koetke is the vice president of the School of Culinary Arts of Kendall College, Chicago, Illinois. He has cooked for some of the best restaurants and pastry shops in France, Switzerland, and the United States.

For several years, Christopher was a contributing editor to Chef, Chef Educator Today, and Fancy Food magazines. He is often a guest on TV and radio broadcasts in Chicago and has produced numerous educational DVDs. He currently appears in his own healthy-cooking television show, Let’s Dish! on Live Well HD network. Chef Koetke has received numerous industry awards including Cooking Teacher of the Year (2009) by the International Association of Cooking Professionals, Chef of the Year by the Chicago chapter of the International Food and Wine Society, ACF culinary competition medals, and third place in the US finals of the Bocuse d'Or.

A masterpiece in diabetic foot problems

This book is one of the most impressive existing works about treatment of diabetic foot. It fills a gap about one of the most important issues in diabetic foot management: the surgical treatment. Surgical community will have with this comprehensive text an excellent tool for getting help while treating this challenging patients. The text is easy to read and it is absolutely updated. The pictures and the description of the surgical techniques are very valuable. I insistently recommend this textbook to the doctors dedicated to diabetic foot care. Dr. Zgonis has prepared a gold mine of information. Congratulations.
