Is it possible to be even more amazing than the first book?

In short.......stunning contents more fantastic than his first book!

Longer review? My fingers are ready to fly across these keys! I can safely say that the majority of people were beyond happy with the long-awaited first book from master sugar artist, Carlos Lischetti. Devotees were begging him to share his skill, knowledge, and artistic perfection of his sugar creations. In short, his works are amazing. So many people loved his work but could not attend his classes, as he is located in England, though he does travel to teach as well. So next best thing is a book, right?

If you peruse the cake decorating websites and magazines and blogs, you cannot help seeing his sugar projects everywhere. Fantasy caricatures of people, places, and things made from modeling paste. But they looked so perfect, so flawless, that you wondered if it was possible to be as good as he is but then.........Carlos, with the help of his equally talented twin brother (who is a crazy-talented artist of photography and illustration in his own right), produced "Animation in Sugar", his first book that introduced us to his instruction on this sugar art.

Fast forward to "Animation in Sugar: Part 2" and you are treated to more instruction and inspiration from the master. This book is large and heavy with 256 pages of voluminous teaching and photography, that includes detailed step-by-step photography, in close-up detail, and in full and glorious color; there are no black and white tutorials. The pages have a nice satin sheen to them and you can "feel" the quality and effort placed into this book.

Some of the projects in this book were ones that I had hoped were in his first book, but were not, therefore I saved those photos of his creations for inspiration. But this second book had all the projects that I hoped for, so now I don't know which one to start first. The great part of this sugar art is that you can tailor-make this to whatever and whomever you want to characterize, as many details of the projects are basic to any structure. The figures can be as large or small as you wish so the scope of the size won't overwhelm you.

The one project that I love, which is the Geisha Girl, is the same one that is on the cover and dust jacket and it is just perfection. I love the deep red of her kimono.

Without giving away too much detail, here is some insight into this book: There are 15 projects offered, ranging from adorable animals to caricatured people ranging from playful to sentimental celebrations. The first 25 pages deal with equipment and recipes, then presentation of the modeling paste he uses. Some might note that the names used for between here and Europe can be different but the paste is till the same. The "glue" recipes used to build images is given, along with prepping cakes before, or after, you make the images.

My most favorite part is of course, the figurines! But before you can really get into creating them, you have to know the body part basics, and coloring (whether using food paste colors or airbrushing); this is discussed in detail. Another welcomed addition is the logistics of transporting your figurines so that they are well-protected en route to their destination.

Then the fun begins: who or what are you going to make? Dogs or piggies? A plumpy Italian chef? Halloween goblin? A sweet wedding couple? These are just a few of the 15 figures Carlos teaches.

The last pages are the templates and schematics of the projects that can be enlarged of course. Both the inside and back covers have adorable pencil caricatures that his brother, Elio, drew as the fantasy of each project became reality.

As far as who would find this easy enough, it is obviously perfect for someone experienced, but even for a novice, with patience and time, this would be great for building confidence and skill.

I bought this for my daughter who is a baker. She called to tell me she loved the book. Although she didn't need it for the baking references the figure sculpture was very instructive with excellent sequential pictures. It was interesting to her because her mother (who does not cook) does sculptures in clay and helped her understand the skill needed.

Love carlos Lichetti!

I was so excited to get my new book in the mail. I absolutely love Carlos Lichetti's work. He's a master at sugar art and his instructions are easy to follow--I bought his first book and made many of the sugar figurines without too much difficulty. It does take practice and a love for creating beautiful things from sugar. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to make beautiful things from sugar, fondant, and cake.

Loved this story, can't wait for more!

RaShelle Workman's Blood and Snow world is probably one of my favorite fairy tale reimaginings I've read. The whole world and all of the characters are so unique, and I love how all of the stories can either stand on their own or can be read all together. In previous volumes, we've met witches, dragons, vampires, and all kinds of of other creatures. Now, in this Alice in Wonderland reimagining, we get to meet Moths.

The Moths are a really interesting creature. Sure, half demon/half human creatures have been done before. But I've never seen them like this! In The Dark Moth Society, the powerful Moths have been trained to fight their demon parents, who come for them on their 18th birthdays. It's a horrible game the demons play, and I can't imagine living my life knowing that a demon is coming to kill me. I also found it really interesting that only the demons of the seven deadly sins play this game - the Moths all have a certain vice depending on who their demon parent was.

Except for Alice. The moth on the back of her hand has never changed colors, so she doesn't even know which demon is coming for her. I have so many questions about Alice, her parentage, and her special abilities, and I can't wait for the next installment to find out more. I'm also really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the Blood & Snow world will play in to Alice's story! This was a really great introduction to this part of the extensive world that's already established.

If you're a fan of fairy tale reimaginings, especially Alice in Wonderland ones, you definitely need this book! Even if you haven't read any of the other books in the Blood and Snow series, this one stands exceptionally well on its own. If you've read any of the Blood and Snow books, you'll also want to read this one and meet Alice and her fellow Moths! 4/5.

The Dark Moth Society

Well as usual RaShelle Workman has done it again. I am never disappointed in her books. They keep you on the edge of your seat through the entire book and this one is no different. Alice is a dark moth trainee. Her mother is human and her father is a demon. They have to train because the demon fathers have made a game of when their children become a certain age they hunt them down and kill them. Alices turn will be in a couple months then her father will be after her. I agree with another review I read that it was too short...LOL...Miss RaShelle Workman us readers need another Dark Moth fix soon. Trust me readers you will enjoy this book. There is a lot of action in this book that I haven't told you about. I don't want to spoil it for you. Loved it.

Whenever I see that there is a new book out in the Blood and Snow world I get really excited. I have followed this series from the beginning and love everything about it. This book starts off introducing us to Alice and explains a little about the mothman society and what they are. I just love books about anything that has to do with demons and Rashelle did it well. I am particularly curious to learn a little more about Kade. There is some mystery surrounding him. Overall I loved it, just like any book by this author. I cant wait to read the next one to see what going to happen next.

"I remember Henrique as one of the great players I looked up to during my studies at Berklee College of Music. Now a seasoned educator, in his DVD the Moeller Technique Workshop, Henrique offers great insight into a very useful technique, along with very clear explanations every step of the way! The operator interface to the control system has been listed as a contributing factor in several major incidents. Until recently, there have been few books on the subject of control system human machine interface (HMI) design. One of the books published in the last year is Human-Machine Interface Design for Process Control Applications, by Jean-Yves Fiset. Fiset is president of Syst�mes Humains-Machines Inc. He has a PhD from �cole Polytechnique de Montr�al and nearly 30 years of experience, including several years with Atomic Energy of Canada specializing in human-machine interfaces, automated emergency operating procedures and control rooms.

The first chapters introduce the challenge and benefit of successful HMI design. Modern plants with modern control systems can overwhelm an operator without a well designed HMI. Fiset advocates the user centered design process. It is important to note that this does not mean just give the users what they want, but rather to understand the tasks the users must perform and to provide an interface that assists in the execution of those tasks. Fiset uses examples to illustrate the process for designing a new HMI, including a plan, schedule, task analysis, requirements, specification, documentation, and initial designs. Several design tips are also included.

The next chapters cover the development of an HMI specification and the evaluation of a design against the requirements. Fiset includes an example outline for a specification and references related guidelines. The specification may be developed by evaluating mock-ups of the HMI. Two of the evaluation methods discussed are heuristic evaluation and usability testing. Heuristic evaluations test the HMI design against good practice. Usability testing checks the performance of the design through simulated tasks.

Fiset also describes methods to improve an existing HMI, with or without a design basis. If there is a design basis, the improvement process focuses on using capabilities and addressing learning identified from the operation of the current system. The ideal improvement process is continuous. Without design basis, the process looks more like the process of design of a new HMI, with the identification of tasks and documenting the specification. There is a brief discussion on adapting displays to different types of processes, such as continuous, batch, and discrete. The process does not change, though the user tasks may.

The final chapters cover the design of the broader HMI. One aspect is the integration of different components into an HMI, including panels and wireless devices. Another aspect is the design of the control room itself, including the decisions on which stations and equipment are adjacent. Fiset includes operating procedures in the HMI, and discusses their development and validation. An appendix provides advice on when to use different components, including large display screens, annunciators, and display techniques.

Many sites can benefit from improved guidance on the development and improvement of the operator interface. Fiset provides a process for HMI design, but very little in the way of display techniques themselves. Human-Machine Interface Design for Process Control Applications is a 20,000 ft view of HMI design. While it is worth reading, making it a borrow (BBB), there are other books that can provide more details of design.

Why self-driving cars?  Why now?  We wrote this book for two reasons:  first, we follow emerging technologies closely, particularly ones that -- like self-driving cars -- have the potential to profoundly change our lives.  The second reason was more personal:  we drive a lot and wish we didn't have to.  Like most people, we spend hours each week unhappily waiting out traffic jams in all kinds of weather driving, frequently with precious cargo (family, friends and pets) on board.  
Driverless cars are one of the most-hyped technologies of recent years, so one of our goals in writing this book was to untangle fact and fiction.  In clear and jargon-free language, Driverless provides an overview of the suite of technologies that make intelligent vehicles possible.  We explore the critical role that artificial intelligence (AI) plays in the driverless revolution.  In fact, we dedicate an entire chapter to the development and inner machinations of a rapidly emerging sort of AI called "deep learning" that has the potential to give robots and machines human-level artificial perception. Another technology-oriented chapter introduces the suite of hardware sensors that feed data to the car's operating system.  
Technology is just part of the story, however.  Any complete tale of self-driving cars must analyze their impact on our daily lives, on businesses, government, and culture. One chapter delves into the way that driverless cars (a software play) will re-arrange the automotive industry (currently not a particularly AI-savvy industry).  Another chapter covers the way that thus far, the U.S. federal government has failed to demonstrate the leadership we need.  We dig into the surprisingly long and colorful history of self-driving vehicles. We also speculate about the raging torrent of new data that driverless car sensors will generate, and what these new torrents of data will do to our sense of privacy and the way intelligent cars will navigate through traffic-choked city streets. 
 The book winds up with a look at the future:  as self-driving cars disrupt business models, which jobs will disappear and what new ones will emerge?  On a less serious note, fans of online retail and instant gratification take heart!  Imagine ordering lunch at the press of a button, and a few minutes later, enjoying a delicious meal that was rushed over in a heated delivery pod the size of a lunchbox. Essential reading for anyone looking to learn about the self-driving ecosystem

This is one of the best books on the market for a thorough and proper overviews of the self-driving revolution and autonomous ecosystem. I'd hope and highly recommend that this would be required reading for students in engineering courses dealing with robotics and control systems and sensor fusion, computer scientists working with AI, machine learning and big data, and ethics and public policy topics.

Really good, thorough read in all things driverless car.

This was a surprisingly comprehensive read on all aspects of driverless cars - I feel as if I can hold a coherent conversation on the aspects of the technology involved in driverless cars and the progress made (particularly recently) that helps explain why this could actually become a reality. The envisioned future world of driverless cars the authors imagine in the book,and its challenges and improvements, is very impressive and included areas and issues I had not considered before. Highly recommend for anyone interested in AVs and the potential impact they can have on the broader economy.

Great book

I liked the detailed explanations into the technology dumbed down enough to understand. The deep/machine learning areas and image processing will inevitably make autonomous driving come to fruition and the impact of not killing a million plus people worldwide every year seems like a pretty good idea. I love the idea of taking my grandkids to the driving park where we can drive like maniacs with a steering wheel, gas pedal and brakes if we want to even if we're drunk or high but if we get out of control, the car takes over.

There are soooo many pictures! No wonder this book is massive! Even if you can't read Japanese like me, it's nice to look at and easy to pick up on the concepts they explain. The layout is clear an uncluttered.

The book comes with a shiny dust cover. The actual cover of the book is a lovely mural of the island. The book has detailed sections on events, characters and more. (I loved seeing the character profiles and google translating their traits.) It has a few qr codes as examples and- No joke. There's a qr code for the Ecce Homo aka Potato Jesus. Why even? I don't know, but it's great!

It really is an awesome book. I recommend it to Animal Crossing fans and collectors.

a bit tedious

I was somewhat disappointed in this work. The first volume was a tedious "will he?" or "won't he?" take Pamela's virtue. She was in constant fear of him, yet in the second half loved him. I found it hard to believe that the Squire would have a total change of heart (from almost rapist to marrying below him). There weren't really any characters that I liked except for Pamela's parents.

Copy arrived earlier than expected and in great condition. Preface and footnotes helpful for a novel that is often a slow read .Richardson was a favorite author of Jane Austen but not her literary equal !

John Roderigo Dos Passos (1896–1970) was a writer, painter, and political activist. He wrote over forty books, including plays, poetry, novels, biographies, histories, and memoirs. He crafted over four hundred drawings, watercolors, and other artworks.

Dos Passos considered himself foremost a writer of contemporary chronicles. He preferred the moniker of “chronicler” because he was happiest working at the edge of fiction and nonfiction.

Both genres benefited from his mastery of observation—his “camera eye”—and his sense of historical context. Dos Passos sought to ground fiction in historic detail and working-class, realistic dialogue. He invented a multimedia format of songs, newsreels, biographies, third-person fictional narrative, and first-person semi-autobiographical narrative snapshots to convey the frenzy of America’s industrialism and urbanism in the twentieth century. His most memorable fiction—Three Soldiers (1921), Manhattan Transfer (1925), and the U.S.A. trilogy (1938)—possesses the authority of history and the allure of myth. A stellar memoir by a key member of the Lost Generation. Well worth the investment.

I purchased my copy of "The Best Times" by the great writer, John Dos Passos, last year, and it lived up to my expectations, and even exceeded them. John Dos Passos was a fixture of the Lost Generation and had close ties to his counterparts, Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda. Through the power of his talent to write Dos Passos brings these great friends of his to life, and takes the readers of this book on a journey through the times he lived in. He speaks of his very first meeting with Hemingway, Scott and Zelda, and speaks with how his friendship with Hemingway came apart because as he put it they grew up by their thirties and in the process grew apart. Surprisingly these two great writers who were once best friends in life managed to correspond and stay in touch over the years, and they never lost their love and admiration or each other. Like Hemingway, Dos Passos was a world traveler, and you will enjoy his trips to Europe and later to Spain, and he brings his destinations and its people to life for his readers. I highly recommend this book. It serves as a nice counterpart to Hemingway's own memoir, "A Moveable Feast".

I have always admired this author's work; reading this memoir made me respect and admire him as a man. His experiences during war were cool and clear which suggests that he had to distance himself from them in order to deal with them. The evolution of his friendships with Fitzgerald, Hemingway, the Murphys was fascinating - I just wish he could have invested his memories with a wee bit more feeling.

About the Author

Panos J. Antsaklis received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Brown University, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. His main research interests are in the area of systems and control, particularly in linear feedback systems and intelligent autonomous control systems, with emphasis on hybrid and discrete event systems and reconfigurable control. He is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. He has held regular and visiting teaching and research positions at Imperial College of the University of London, Brown University, Rice University, MIT, the National Technical University of Athens, and the Technical University of Crete, Greece.

Dr. Antsaklis has been awarded a departmental outstanding teacher award and has been a keynote speaker�at a number of conferences. He is also�a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Control Systems Society.�Dr. Antsaklis�has authored a number of publications in journals, conference proceedings, and books and has coedited�five books as well. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, and the Journal of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems, and he has been the guest editor of special issues in these and other journals. Dr. Ansaklis has served as program chair and general chair of major systems and control conferences, and he is an IEEE Fellow and the 1997 President of the IEEE Control Systems Society.

Anthony N. Michel holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University, as well as a D.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the Technical University of Graz, Austria. He has extensive industrial and academic experience, and his main research interests are in control systems, circuit theory, neural networks, and applied mathematics. He is currently the Frank M. Freiman Professor of Electrical Engineering and Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Michel has coauthored five books as well as a number of journal articles, conference proceedings, and conference books. He is a former editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, and he has held a variety of positions on the editorial boards of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing, and Neurocomputing, as well as other journals. He is a past president of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and has served on the executive committees of several professional organizations. Dr. Michel is also the recipient of numerous professional awards. He is a Fellow of the IEEE. In 1984 he received the IEEE Centennial Medal, and he also earned three IEEE paper prizes. He spent 1992 as a Fulbright Scholar at the Technical University of Vienna, and, most recently, he received the 1995 Technical Achievement Award of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.

Good book....

Linear Systems by Antsaklis/ Michel is a comprehensive book on the subject. The best thing about the book is that it does not make too many presumptions about the background of the reader and starts with a detailed introduction to mathematical preliminaries before moving on to the heart of the subject. Proofs are given in detail, and the concurrent treatment of continuous and discrete time systems helps. The only negative point is the fact that no applications are stated in detail. However, the exercise problems contain a variety of them to satiate the inquisitive reader. A must have!
