Succinct & convincing

Bob Baker, who literally "wrote the book" on guerrilla music marketing, establishing a classic alternative approach that has been highly influential as indie music developed, with this condensed work has spelled out the essence of how to use the Internet and social media to promote your music. Although extracted from a more elaborate work, there is lots here to learn from. The framework and way of thinking is set forward with Bob's typical clarity, and the examples are real-life actionable. Most valuable in my view is the guidance in decision-making: with so many tools available, how does a musician allocate time & energy? Read it 3x, and keep it close while planning...!

A Change in Thinking

About 5 years ago I purchased the first edition of Guerrilla Music Marketing. At the time I had just broke with my band and decided at that time to go solo. I, like I'm sure many new artists had the idea that marketing was for corporations and/or big business'. And my attitude at the time was simply why would I want to indulge in such an evil practice. But after reading his book my eyes were open to a whole new way of expressing creativity. I now find marketing as a creative outlet just as much as creating music itself. A clever video, an interesting blurb on Twitter or Facebook, or as simple as posting an instant photo. All are fun ways to connect, communicate, and hopefully inspire. A much different philosophy on marketing than I started with.

Great read!

This book honestly opened my eyes up to some simple ways to market my music. I'm honestly surprised how little I knew. I love the octopus strategy and am in the works of starting it now. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who is pursuing an independent career in music!
